Her only real friends are the animals which since childhood she has lovingly drawn and made up stories about. She finally succeeds in selling a book of the stories, and it becomes Norman Warne’s first project. When only watching the Harry Potter movies, do I miss out on a lot of information included in the books?
Like in Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix.
Yes you do, bits are cut out of the book so it will make the movie shorter, they cant put it all in the movie would be too long.

Yes, a lot, a LOT!

I think that’s true of any book that is made into a film. It’s very hard to encapsulate the pages of a book into a 2-3 hour movie. Many books need to have their plots crystallized in order to make it to the big screen. ‘The Hunt for Red October’, ‘Jurassic Park’, and ‘The DaVinci Code’ are all incredible books, but in comparison, the movies are pale.

YES like with all movies that are made from books loads of info is always not included, half the story of the harry potter books dont even get put in the movies, the books are always better than the movie, its a fact, and i mean any book, not just harry potter ones lol.
Hello
yes you do. i have personally read the whole series and seen all the movies that are out so far and sometimes in the movie they miss out whole chapters of the book an espeshly in the half blood prince i dont think i would have understood the movie if i hadn’t already read the book. so i defo think you should read all the books as they are far better than the movies
Definitely!!!

Yes, I agree with all the other posters. Movies always skip over some material but try to keep the gist of the story in tact. Do you remember Dobby and all of the elves? Well, they were actually in more books but due to filming and the screenwriters, they edited out some things. But there other things that were edited out of the movie too besides the elves. If you feel it’ll be better to read the books after you have seen the movies, then do that or you can borrow the books from the library. They are very enjoyable. I personally read all of the books and watch all of the movies but of course like any reader who then views the interpreted text, I feel slighted at the exclusions in the movie.
Eragon is a great example of this. The book series is fantastic but I think they condensed it too much for the movie. If they had kept more content, the movie would have been even more enjoyable.

Not only do you miss out on some information, but the movies also show some stuff that really arent there in the book. For example in chamber of secrets (the book) Hermione has no clue what "mudblood" means and only says that she thought it sounded rude. But in the movie it is shown that she is downright offended when Draco calls her "mudblood" as she already knows what it means.
In goblet of fire, they havent shown a lot of things from the maze in the third task. They didnt introduce winky at all and Barty Crouch’s story is incomplete. You should read the book for the details.

Yes, you miss a lot of information and a lot of memorable moments which actually define the series. Personally I think it’s always better to read the book before watching the movie. It gives you a lot of background information and helps you understand the story better.
In the Goblet of Fire, for instance, they left out a task in the Labyrinth (The Sphynx).
Like some poster before me said, a great example is Eragon. The book is absolutely brilliant, but the movie turned out to be a BIG disappointment. Hadn’t I read the book, I wouldn’t have liked Eragon at all…

Oh man, I can’t even begin to tell you how much you miss! The first two movies are a pretty good representation of the books- mostly because they were shorter and it was easier to fit a lot into the films and stay true to the book. However, Prisoner of Azkaban was AWFUL- my favorite book and they absolutely butchered it. After that, they kind of went downhill with staying true to the books. I’m actually really glad they’re splitting Deathly Hallows into two movies, hopefully that will make it easier for the director to fit as much of the storyline in as possible.
I would definitely read the books if you have enjoyed the movies. The first three are very quick reads, 4-7 are definitely longer but if you’re into them, you can finish them in no time. I hope you do end up reading them, they’re pretty great!!

Oh yes you do, the movies leave you quite alott. I mean dont get me wrong i love all love the movies but they leave out quite alot. i suggest you read the books because if you like the movies you’ll just love the books and it makes it even more exciteing to go see it in theaters when they come out.

Yes, and in fact you miss out most of the important stuff.
The backstory for Voldermort was omitted from Half-Blood Prince, the story of the Gaunts, the meaning of the horcruxes, what Malfoy was up to with the cupboard, the significance of Kreacher, the omission of Dobby from Order Of The Phoenix, Snapes memories in Order…all of these are hugely significant to the outcome of the books, and yet the film-makers just show a few bits and try to weave them together into a plot.
When I saw the last 2 films, I really felt they’d just ripped random pages out of the books and then filmed them, it was really that bad.
And then they insert scenes that aren’t in the books and have no relevance to the plot (the scene in the corn and The Burrow burning in Half-Blood).
Seriously, you would be wise to read the books before watching the next 2 films, as it’s the same director as the last 2, and that just doesn’t bode well for the uninitiated.

WHEN YOU WATCH ONLY THE MOVIES YOU MISS HARRY POTTER ITSELF! WHAT MAKES HARRY IS THE BOOK, NOT THE MOVIE. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY READ THE BOOK!!!!
NOTE: FOR EXAMPLE OOTP WAS MY FAV. BOOK BUT THE MOVIE OF IT WAS THE WORST MOVIE IN THE SERIES, I THINK… SO YOU MISS EVERYTHING

You have no idea. The movies mostly just show the main plot. Like in the fourth movie, there isn’t any mystery to how Rita Skeeter finds out about stuff she shouldn’t.In the fifth, they don’t mention that it was Umbridge who sent the dementors after Harry. In the sixth, there is no battle of the Astronomy Tower, and you don’t find out about Voldemort’s past. But there are so many little mysteries and important stuff, and even stuff that isn’t important that still adds to the story in the books that you never find out about in the movies.
I hope you read the books, because it will be so exciting for you to find out all this stuff. Believe me the movies are NOTHING compared to the books

Yes. Many minor details in the books are kept out of the movies, to keep the movies at a reasonable length. But in some of the recent movies (like The Goblet of FIre and the Order of the Phoenix) some scenes and elements from the book were left out. In my opinion the movies are good, but you should read the books as well, at least the last one before the two movies come out.

yea i actually just started reading the books but it isnt like you wont understand anything in the next movie without reading the books
Roxas | Nov 23, 2009
you miss out on a but, but usually in the movies they change it, modify the script so the story will still fit, and all important details are still included
minly in the books, there is alot more detail and some f the events are completely different from the movies
the books are defiantly worth reading, even one girl who i recommended them to loved them, and she originally hated them.
